Content powerhouse, Banijay, today announces Banijay Belgium will adapt SAS: Who Dares Wins, known locally as Special Forces: Wie Durft Wint for VTM.

In Special Forces: Wie Durft Wint, 11 famous faces will take part in demanding challenges, but only the best will pass the selection process based on the elite special forces corp. The celebrity recruits, which include singer and presenter, Koen Wauters, ex-basketball player Ann Wauters, and politician, Georges-Louis Bouchez, will head to Morocco to face challenges overseen by four ex-Special Forces operators. However, being in the Special Forces isn’t about who is the strongest or the fastest, it is about attitude and mindset. Which of these celebrities has what it takes?

SAS: Who Dares Wins was created in 2015 by Minnow Films for Channel 4.  Banijay now holds the global distribution rights. This commission in Flanders marks the ninth adaptation of the format with successful local versions already produced in territories such as the US, the Netherlands, Denmark, where it recently won a TV Prisen for best reality, and Australia, where series one was the biggest show ever on 7Plus.

Isabelle Dams, Managing Director, Banijay Belgium says: “The celebrities are ready to put their resilience to the test in this adventure reality format. Along with VTM, we’re looking forward to Belgian audiences becoming gripped by the journey of the famous recruits.”

Lucas Green, Global Head of Content Operations at Banijay adds: “Adrenaline-packed, intense, and entertaining, SAS: Who Dares Wins already has a strong fanbase around the world. It is now an established global brand, but we’re really looking forward to seeing how its rich visuals and cinematic storytelling come to life in Belgium, taking the popularity of special forces to a new level.”

  2. EndemolShine Germany Highlights Low Literacy Levels with Banijay’s The Write Offs

Comments Off on EndemolShine Germany Highlights Low Literacy Levels with Banijay’s The Write Offs

Banijay, the content powerhouse, today announces that EndemolShine Germany, part of Banijay Germany, will adapt The Write Offs for ZDF. The format created by Banijay UK’s Shine TV will be known locally as Lost for Words (w/t) and presented by Sabine Heinrich.

The Write Offs gives a group of adults the incredible opportunity to change their lives and address the one thing that may be holding them back. Can you imagine not being able to navigate public transport or read a text? For many, this is a reality, as globally a large proportion of people struggle with the basic literacy skills necessary for everyday situations. In this empowering format, adults receive one-to-one tuition and embark on an eye-opening journey as they face tasks that encourage them to go outside of their comfort zones. The series concludes with a heart-warming and dramatic performance for their loved ones.

Fabian Tobias, Managing Director at EndemolShine Germany says:The Write Offs shines a light on an issue that affects 6 million people in Germany and up to now rarely discussed. Just as in the UK, Denmark, and Australia, we hope this new series will provide uplifting and relevant content whilst also inspiring those who do struggle with their literacy.”

Lucas Green, Global Head of Content Operations at Banijay says: “The Write Offsresonates worldwide, because shockingly-low literacy rates are not exclusive to one country. This is a daily reality for many people globally, and the show raises awareness and starts discussions among the wider public. It is powerful, empowering, stigma-reducing, and we’re looking forward to seeing where it goes next.”

Originally created by Shine TV for UK broadcaster Channel 4, this commission marks the fourth adaptation of the factual series with The Write Offs having travelled to Denmark and Australia where a second series recently aired on SBS. Described in the UK as ‘a heart-warming, inspiring and education watch’, by Stylist UK and in Australia as ‘an unexpectedly joyous documentary series’, by The Saturday Paper Australia, the show has received international acclaim. In addition, the show had a positive social impact – a study from SBS found that 94% of Australians felt more aware of adult literacy following series one, and 91% said it gave hope to Australians with lower literacy.

EndemolShine Germany is a leading production and entertainment company in Germany and is behind some of the nation’s best-loved non-scripted shows, with titles such as Big Brother VIP, Kitchen Impossible, Limitless Win, The Masked Singer, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

  6. Celebrity Island Heading to Denmark

Comments Off on Celebrity Island Heading to Denmark

Banijay today announces that international adventure-reality format, The Island, is getting its first Danish celebrity version for Kanal 5 and  discovery+, produced by Banijay’s Nordisk Film TV. Under the local title Øen VIP, the series is the fourth adaptation of the celebrity version worldwide and will feature eight well-known Danes as they are set ashore on a tropical desert island, where they must survive 14 days – completely on their own.

The Island is a ground-breaking format that explores whether modern men and women are tough and resourceful enough to survive on a remote uninhabited island, while stripped of all modern conveniences and the basics of their everyday life. The format also incorporates the pioneering use of embedded crew, that participate on an equal footing with the participants and must join the community in order to survive.

Øen VIP puts the celebrity Danes under pressure when they are deprived of the comforts of modern life for a fortnight and must live on an island without civilization in the Pacific Ocean. The cast includes influencer Philine Roepstorff, TV presenter Mille Gori, 33, TV doctor Charlotte Bøving, actor Sebastian Bull, model Oliver Bjerrehuus, chef Thomas Rode, professional skateboarder Rune Glifberg, and professional dancer Frederik Nonnemann.

Ulrik Jørgensen, CEO Nordisk Film TV Denmark says: “We can’t wait to bring Celebrity Island to the Danish audience and allow them to see well-known faces in a whole new light. Seeing the celebrities stripped of their modern comforts you can’t help but wonder how you would get on if you suddenly had to survive on a deserted island.”

Lucas Green, Global Head of Content Operations at Banijay says: Celebrity Island offers a gripping insight into the grit, capabilities, and survival skills of well-known faces, when they are stripped of their possessions and home comforts. This is a unique format without the usual trappings of big prizes, eliminations, and winners, and it’s fantastic to see it continue to travel to new markets.”

Pil Gundelach Brandstrup, Nordic programme director at Warner Bros. Discovery says: “Øen VIP is another addition to the large range of adventure programmes offered by Warner Bros Discovery. Øen VIP is without comparison among the toughest and most authentic reality programmes in the genre. We will experience the participants in some conditions that will mean that we get really close to them – for better or for worse. The programme offers hard times and humor, struggle and conflicts, development and realisations. The cast each get a perspective on their own lives, as they live in Denmark with many things that are taken for granted. And we also hope that the programme can both help to entertain the viewers, but also give food for thought in relation to our own everyday life.”

The eight-episode run will premiere on Kanal 5 and discovery+ at the beginning of 2023.

The Island was originally created by Shine TV and Bear Grylls Ventures LLP © in 2014.
