    Banijay Nordic today announces Georgie Mathew is returning from Netflix Nordic to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer at Filmlance. Joining the business in January 2026, he brings standout scripted expertise and extensive knowledge of the streamer market, having most recently played a pivotal role in commissioning and delivering originals at the leading global content platform.

    At Netflix Nordics, Mathew was instrumental in shaping the region’s original series slate, curating a portfolio that includes Swedish titles – comedy drama Barracuda Queens and Nordic noir Deliver Me; Norwegian disaster mini-series La Palma; and Danish hypnotic supernatural-thriller Copenhagen Cowboy. Prior to Netflix, he held senior positions at Banijay Nordic’s YellowBird, contributing to a line-up of acclaimed Swedish dramas like Snow Angels and Bäckström.

     

    Filmlance is one of Sweden’s most respected production companies, known for high-quality, emotionally rich storytelling and strong creative partnerships. Its latest title, Fallen, is a gripping drama showcasing long-standing talent relationships.     Content powerhouse, Banijay Entertainment, today announces Popular Problems, a new 6 x 30’ comedy commissioned by SVT, and produced by Swedish label, Filmlance International.

    Created and starring Sissela Benn and Jonatan Unge, Popular Problems is a quirky and honest comedy series exploring the absurd complexity of continuing a relationship when you’ve decided to breakup, all because you happen to have a child together. The comedy delves into the bittersweet reality of co-parenting with someone you’re no longer in love with.

    The writing team includes Benn, Unge, Isabella Rodriguez and Andreas Nygård. The series is directed by Ernst De Geer, acclaimed for his award-winning feature film Hypnosen, which picked up three Guldbagge Awards.

    Filming will take place in Malmö and the surrounding area this spring, and the series will premiere on SVT in 2026. The series was commissioned for SVT Humour, with Julia Törnberg and Mats Grimberg serving as executive producers. Co-produced with Film i Skåne, Joakim Rang.

    Content powerhouse, Banijay Entertainment, today announces Fallen, the hit crime drama from award-winning Swedish label, Filmlance, has been ordered for a second season on TV4. Globally distributed by Banijay Rights, the emotionally-driven series has sold to markets including France, Australia and the US. The news comes as Göteborg Film Festival TV Drama Vision gets under way.

    Created and written by Camilla Ahlgren, the screenwriter behind iconic series The Bridge, along with Martin Asphaug and Alex Haridi, the drama once again stars Sofia Helin (The Bridge, Lust, Emmy winner Atlantic Crossing).

    In the upcoming season, Iris Broman (played by Sofia Helin) becomes increasingly comfortable in Malmöleading the cold case team. A fresh case, where a body is found buried outside a mansion in Ystad, and another which is being tracked by documentary-makers, could potentially be connected. Meanwhile, just as the investigation is gaining momentum, Iris receives a message, with unexpected consequences from her former colleague Adam in Stockholm.

    Sofia Helin says: “I am so happy about the fact that so many people appreciated our series! I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to portray Iris again and give the audience the continuation of this story.”

    Banijay Rights today announces the first international sales of Fallen, the new crime drama from Banijay Nordic label Filmlance and Bron (The Bridge) screenwriter Camilla Ahlgren and actor Sofia Helin, as this week’s Göteborg Film Festival TV Drama Vision conference gets under way.

    In deals negotiated across the Banijay Rights global sales team, Fallen has been acquired by CANAL+ Group’s POLAR+ channel in France, MHz Choice in the US, NPO in the Netherlands, SBS in Australia, ERTin Greece and Syn hf in Iceland.

    Created and written by Ahlgren along with Martin Asphaug and Alex Haridi, the six-part series stars Helin (The Bridge, Lust, Emmy-winner Atlantic Crossing) and Hedda Stiernstedt (The Restaurant, Wallander, Beforeigners) and is a co-production between, TV4, Film i Skåne and Filmlance, in collaboration with ZDF.

    Fallen sees Helin play Iris Broman – the new head of Kalla Fall, a group solving cold cases in Malmö – who due to a tragedy moves from Stockholm down to the small southern town of Ystad, where she lives in her half-sister Kattis’ (Stiernstedt) house by the sea. But when Iris arrives in Skåne, a cold case becomes topical again and everything is turned upside down, intertwining the lives of several characters.

    Award-winning scripted label Filmlance, part of Banijay Nordic, today announces filming has begun on its latest drama for Viaplay, Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, the classic Astrid Lindgren adventure about a strong and independent girl which took the world by storm when it was published 40 years ago.

    Young actress Kerstin Linden, from critically-acclaimed feature film, The Emigrants, has signed up for the highly sought-after lead role as Ronja the Robber’s Daughter. She is joined by Jack Bergenholtz Henriksson, who plays the role of Ronja’s friend, Birk Borkason.

     

    The parents of the two robber families are played by a star-studded ensemble consisting of Christopher Wagelin (The Truth Will Out, Love Me) as Mattis, Krista Kosonen (Beforeigners, The Swarm, Blade Runner 2049) playing Lovis, and in rival dynasty, Sverrir Gudnason (Love Me, Borg) plays Borka, and Maria Nohra (Honor, Beck) as Undis.

    Filming of the twelve-episode Swedish-language series solely written by acclaimed Bron creator, Hans Rosenfeldt, and first season directed by Lisa James Larsson (Victoria, A Royal Affair), has now begun.

    Kerstin Linden says: “It feels so much fun to do my interpretation of the role of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter. Although the book and film came before I was born, I have still read and seen it several times – and I really love the story. She is a tough and smart girl with a mind of her own.”

    Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is produced by Bonnie Skoog Feeney and Mattias Arehn (Björnstad) for Filmlance with Sara Askelöf as executive producer at Viaplay Group and Hanne Palmquist as executive producer at Filmlance.  Johan Palmberg is executive producer at Astrid Lindgren Company. Maggie Widstrand is casting director for all children, and Tusse Lande cast all adult actors. The series is a co-operation with Film i Väst.

The lead director is Linnéa Roxeheim (Portkod), working with Olof Spaak.  Filming will take place in Malmö and Ystad and the surrounding area and the series will launch on C More in 2023.

    Banijay today announces scripted producer Filmlance has acquired the television rights from Politiken Literary Agency to the critically-acclaimed Jana Kippo trilogy from well-known Swedish author, Karin Smirnoff.

     

    The series of best-selling novels, based on character Jana Kippo, is set to be developed into a new Swedish drama with international potential.

     

    The producer is Anna Wallmark at Filmlance, who was behind the company’s most recent hit Top Dog, together with Teresa Alldén and Olof Spaak.

     

    The Jana Kippo trilogy has sold more than half a million copies in Sweden and has been translated in multiple European languages, including English.

     

    The story begins with Jana Kippo returning to her family village of Smalånger, moving into her childhood home to get Bror, her alcoholic twin brother’s life in order.  The pair have a common childhood trauma and a death in the village takes a heavy toll. Maria was found dead in a forest glade and no one knows what happened, did she commit suicide or was she murdered? The longer Jana stays in her home village, the more she gets to know about both Maria and herself.

     

    Filmlance’s Managing Director Hanne Palmquist comments; “Karin Smirnoff is one of the most interesting Swedish authors around and we are incredibly proud to be working on what is sure to be a powerful, world-class television production.     Karin Smirnoff (b. 1964) lives in Piteå, Sweden, and worked as a journalist before buying a wood factory. After a few years, she longed to return to writing and applied to Lund University’s writing school with what would become her debut: ‘I Went Down to My Brother’, which was nominated for the August Prize 2018 for Fiction. The second book was published in the spring of 2019, and the third book in the spring of 2020.

    Filmlance, a Banijay company today announces it has been nominated for the Swedish government’s Export Award for Cultural and Creative Industries.

     

    Filmlance is among the five nominees for the award which acknowledges individuals or companies that in 2019 contributed towards Swedish exports and strengthened the image of Sweden internationally. Winners will be announced by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Foreign Trade Anna Hallberg on 23 October.
