Global distributor Banijay Rights, today announces its new sales structure in LATAM, Canada and German-speaking territories under the overarching leadership of CEO, Cathy Payne.
In Latin America, Michelle Wasserman will be leading the charge in selling both finished tape and formats across the continent as SVP Latam, Brazil and US Hispanic. Long integral to the company’s formats business, she has orchestrated format sales for MasterChef into 13 countriesand 14 of My Name Is across the region, alongside managing over 40 format productions per year. Her remit will now expand to finish tape sales.
Joining her in the Miami office is new hire, Ivania Zamora, who takes up the role of VP, Latam.
Having handled the Latam and US Hispanic finished tape sales for the past ten years, Veronique Verges is joining the EMEA team as SVP German-speaking territories, Poland & Hungary. Now based in London, she will report to Tim Mutimer EVP, EMEA. Before transitioning out of her role in Latin America last month, Verges closed several high-value package deals with the likes of, Amazon, Turner and Discovery, surpassing 1600 hours.
Elsewhere, Jane Rimer is officially announced as SVP, Canada. Since joining late last year, she has already completed significant deals including sealing the first iteration of Celebrity Big Brother in French Canada.
Both Jane and Michelle, will report directly into Matt Creasey EVP Sales, Acquisitions and Coproductions – World (excluding EMEA).
With a catalogue of 95,000 hours of multi-genre content, the Banijay Rights team has a wealth of top-quality programming available for audiences around the world. New series highlights for 2021 include crime drama Viewpoint, and gripping new action-drama RFDS: Royal Flying Doctors Service. Singing entrainment formats Fame Maker and A Star in the Star and popular factual returning hits Temptation Island, Lego Masters, and Wipeout.

Banijay Rights, the leading distribution arm of Banijay Group, today confirms a first-look deal with multi-award-winning production company, Chatterbox. The agreement gives Banijay Rights exclusive access to its slate of distinctive factual programming and formats.
Chatterbox was founded by senior creatives Nav Raman, a former Channel 4 factual entertainment commissioning editor, whose slate included Brat Camp, Child Genius and The Unteachables, and Ali Quirk, who brings a strong track record in popular factual content from Gogglebox and Come Dine With Me, to Gold Rush and Sky Cops. The relatively new prodco has already picked up two BAFTA Awards and a Broadcast Award for its BBC documentary, Leaving Care.
The first title in the deal is a compelling BBC Three documentary, Stacey Dooley Investigates: The Whale Hunters. With rare access to a Norwegian commercial hunting vessel, Stacey witnesses the killing of a Minke whale and travels to the Faroe Islands to explore its contentious tradition of whale slaughter. Chatterbox has also landed a talent-led factual entertainment format and a new documentary being directed by an Oscar and BAFTA award-winning producer.

This new agreement is a result of Banijay Rights’ collaboration with the Indielab growth accelerator, which helps independent production companies achieve scale and develop their businesses. This affirms the distributor’s commitment to work with third-party producers: Chatterbox joins Banijays growing group of ground-breaking independent production partners who include, Firecrest Films, Indielab alumni Proper Content and Storyboard, as well as a co-development deal with FirstLook TV.
Banijay Rights, the leading distribution arm of Banijay Group, today announces a multi-season deal with RTL Hungary for its iconic Emmy Award-winning reality format, Survivor.
The new deal in Hungary follows the success of Survivor in Russia where it won the TEFI television award, after being recently rebooted by Mastiff Russia and has already been recommissioned for another series set to air later this year. Elsewhere in CEE, Survivor will return to screens in Romania with series two landing in 2020 on Kanal D.
Survivor returned to Hungarian audiences in 2017 after a 13-year hiatus and has continued to go from strength to strength. The deal was negotiated by Sales Manager, Simon Subreville and Andrew Sime, VP of Formats at Banijay Rights and RTL Klub.
Produced in more than 40 territories since its launch in 2000, the Survivor franchise has proved a huge hit with audiences worldwide. These new orders add to the multiple long-running series already airing in Australia, France, Israel, Sweden, Italy, South Africa, Spain, Benelux, Netherlands and Denmark. In the USA, which regularly attracts audiences of more than 8 million viewers on CBS, a 40th series will premiere on 12th February with a special two-hour episode. To celebrate this milestone CBS will air a one-hour special, Survivorat 40: Greatest Moments and Players, which will look back on the past 20 years of the ground-breaking series.

Banijay Rights today announces the acquisition of Funwood Media. Incorporating both of the businesses sub-brands, Funwood Media Italia and Funwood Media Ibérica, the deal sees Banijay Group’s leading distribution arm enhance its distribution, production and licensing capabilities across Europe.
Operating primarily across Italy and Spain, Funwood Media works with many of the leading players across both regions (Rai, Sky, Discovery, Paramount, Turner, TVE, Mediaset, A3 Media, MGM, Movistar+), as well as a number of regional outfits. Most recently, the business has also made moves into France with M6.
Acting as distributor, producer and agent, the company represents a host of brands, identifying, buying, distributing and managing content and ancillary Rights for them, as well as creating original IP. Its production credits currently include Monica Chef, a 40×30’ kids TV series in collaboration with Disney Channel Italia (Spain, France, Benelux, Italy, Brazil, Denmark), and La Sala, an 8×60’ cop thriller (Spain, Portugal, Poland & Russia). In addition, it leads a strong licensing and merchandising portfolio which encompasses Daniel Tiger, Atari, Animal Planet, Godzilla and Shaun the Sheep.

The recently sealed deals will see BBC-commissioned, factual programming from leading UK producers such as Zig Zag Productions, Wales & Co., Century Films and The Connected Set travel to territories worldwide, from Australasia to the Nordics to Eastern Europe.
A powerful series that goes behind-the-scenes of the adult film industry, Porn Laid Bare (3 x 60’ and format version) from The Connected Set for BBC Three has sold to international broadcasters including Cielo TV in Italy, Kanal 2 in Estonia, Polsat in Poland, SBS Australia, YLE in Finland, OUTtv in Canada and TV2 Norway.
Meanwhile, the 1 x 60’ Zig Zag Production for BBC Three, Stacey Dooley: Face to Face with the Arms Dealers has been picked up by SBS Australia, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, Canal+ Dokument in Poland and to BBC Brit for Africa; as well as RTL in Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
Banijay Rights has sold Series 1 (3 x 30’) and the upcoming Series 2 (6 x 30’) of Young and Pretty Minted from Welsh production company, Wales & Co. for BBC Three and BBC One with both series sold to TV2 in Denmark as well as TVN in Poland.
BBC Three’s highest rating programme since the channel launched online, Abused By My Girlfriend (1 x 60’) by Century Films will now air on; DR in Denmark, Nine Network Australia, RTL in Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, NRK in Norway, RTS in Switzerland, Discovery in Denmark, Finland and Sweden and Foxtel in Australia.
Finally, completing the raft of sales, Century Films’ chilling story of Britain’s first serial HIV infector, The Man Who Used HIV As A Weapon (1 x 60’), that first aired on BBC Three and BBC One, has been picked up by DR in Denmark, NRK in Norway, Nine Network Australia and Foxtel in Australia.
