Previously serving as EVP & Business Head – Scripted, Rajesh has been pivotal in driving the success of its scripted content across various platforms.

    In his elevated role, Rajesh will spearhead the development, production, and strategic operations of the scripted division. His promotion is in line with Banijay Asia’s commitment to strengthen its market leadership in producing compelling, narrative-driven content.

    A media veteran with over 30 years of experience, Rajesh has worked with Endemol, BBC Studios and RBNL, amongst others. He has spearheaded content execution of multiple seasons of award-winning OTT series like Criminal Justice, Out of Love, Rudra, The Night Manager and The Trial, amongst others. As a founder of IMRC Entertainment, he also produced fiction and non-fiction shows across Star Network, Sony TV, Zee TV & Colors.

    Deepak Dhar, Founder & Group CEO – Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, today announced Banijay Asia’s strategic expansion into South East Asia, with the formation of a new entity – CreAsia Studio. With a focus on local collaborations to create local originals and produce local Banijay IP adaptations, he announced the appointment of Jessica Kam-Engle as the EVP & Business Head of CreAsia Studio. She will report to Deepak Dhar, and be responsible for driving business strategy and growth in the key markets of South East Asia – Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. An established Film/TV producer and studio executive, Jessica has more than 20 years of experience working in the region, with brands like Disney+, HBO Asia, Warner Media Entertainment Networks, MTV Networks/Viacom, MGM Gold Network, Dow Jones Newswires, and Celestial Pictures

    Talking about the development, Deepak said, “Given Jessica’s unparalleled experience in the Asian market, Banijay’s global IPs and marquee concepts, exciting local collaborations and a focus on India as a production hub for the region, CreAsia Studio is our next growth engine.” He further added, “We’re confident of Jessica’s leadership to steer us towards a leading presence in the region.     Jessica was most recently Head of Content and Development for Disney+ in APAC, during which she commissioned more than 60 scripted and non-scripted original series across the region with notable commercial hits include Korean dramas Moving, Big Bet, Connect; Japanese live action Gannibal; Chinese series Taiwan Crime Stories, Delicacies Destiny; and Bahasa series Wedding Agreement, Mendua, Call My Agent, Teluh Darah. In 2017-2021 Jessica was Head of Original Production for HBO Asia overseeing its original productions across Asia in 10 languages, including TV series like Workers, Invisible Stories, The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors, Folklore, Food Lore, Grisse, The Teenage Psychic 2, and feature film The Garden Of Evening Mists. Prior to HBO, she has been an independent film producer, based out of Beijing and Hong Kong from 2008 to 2016, during which time she produced 10 feature films including the critically acclaimed The Piano in a factory.

    This latest move complement’s Banijay’s existing activity and presence in the region driven by its global distribution operation, Banijay Rights, which continues to handle format licensing across the region in collaboration with Dhar and the team.

    Banijay today announces Banijay Asia, one of India’s foremost production houses, is collaborating with Armoza Formats, part of ITV Studios, to bring the official adaptation of the award-winning Canadian mini-series, Vertige, to screen. Via the partnership, the Deepak Dhar-led outfit will reimagine this psychological thriller for the Indian audience.

     

    The high-profile Canadian show, originally broadcast in French, deconstructs the alleged suicide of a young girl, Daphne Roussel. Vertige follows her as she miraculously wakes up from a three-month long coma with no memory of the 24 hours prior to her alleged suicide attempt. Struggling to put pieces together about the events, the question is raised – is it a suicide attempt or was it a murder? As every new piece of the puzzle is revealed, another layer of the story is discovered, in this intense, unpredictable, psychological thriller, which has you on the edge-of-your-seat.

    A media veteran with a career spanning over 27 years in the media and entertainment industry, Rajesh has spearheaded projects at prominent companies including BBC Studios, RBNL and Endemol. He led the content execution for award-winning OTT series, Criminal Justice and Out of Love at BBC Studios, and was also involved in Ajay Devgn’s digital debut, Rudra and Guilt & Press in early 2022.

    NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group has signed a co-production deal with Banijay Asia to adapt a number of its iconic, world-class formats in India.

     

    The country’s leading producer, Banijay Asia, will now represent and work with Universal Studio Group to create local versions of award-winning scripted and entertainment titles Suits, House, Monk, Saturday Night Live, The Titan Games and Top Chef across the region. The carefully curated portfolio will be reimagined for a new audience across the linguistically diverse and culturally rich region, having already achieved great success in the US and across the globe.

     

    This deal marks the first co-production agreement  for NBCUniversal Formats in India, as it strives to create more local content across Asia and the globe. To date, Suits has already been adapted successfully for audiences in Japan and Korea; Saturday Night Live has been a ratings success in Japan, China and Korea; and Top Chef continues to perform well in Thailand and Vietnam.

    Two of Banijay Group’s JVs, The Natural Studios and Banijay Asia, today announce they are partnering to bring high-octane content to the Indian and Southeast Asian market. The collaboration will see the businesses come together to create long and short-form content in this space across both local and global platforms.

     

    The Group partnership is the first for The Natural Studios, a JV launched with Bear Grylls and Delbert Shoopman in October 2019. Combining Grylls and Shoopman’s expertise in the adventure space with Deepak Dhar-led Banijay Asia’s extensive territory knowledge, the united operation will create and build the high-octane genre in the subcontinent. With work already underway on a development slate of projects in India and Southeast Asia, they hope to announce their first green-lit title in the coming weeks.

    Wavemaker, the media, content and technology agency from GroupM and Content powerhouse, Banijay Asia, have partnered with Myntra to create India’s first digital reality show – Myntra Fashion Superstar. The show is aimed at identifying the country’s most sought after digital fashion influencer. The eight-part reality show stars actor Sonakshi Sinha and celebrity stylist Shaleena Nathani as judges.

     

    The show will provide an opportunity to fashion aficionados with a knack for creating and projecting styles to bring forward their unique personalities, through digital and social-first content. Contestants will compete in a variety of fashion styling and digital content innovation tasks to showcase their penchant for fashion and be given the coveted title of India’s Fashion Superstar.

    Speaking about the show, Achint Setia, Vice President, Marketing at Myntra said, “Consumers these days look for experiences coming from people whom they can relate to, which are more authentic.     Motion Content Group, a division of GroupM and Banijay Asia, the 50:50 joint venture between world’s largest independent content creation company Banijay Group, and media veteran Deepak Dhar, has announced a first of its kind partnership for the Indian market  in order to create content for TV broadcasters and OTT platforms.

     

    The partnership sees the coming together of two giants from their respective industries and will provide a win-win for content platforms across the small and digital screens.

     

    Banijay Asia will bring in experience of creating premium content, from ideating, developing, producing, and acquiring format rights while Motion Content Group will leverage GroupM’s expertise in understanding audiences, media consumption, brands and managing format rights. Through this association, the two partners aim to produce content as well as assist the broadcasters and digital platforms with format rights and complete the value chain by helping monetize the content being produced.
