Banijay Rights Strikes First International Sale for Flemish Comedy-Drama BOHO
July 21, 2026
Banijay Rights, the global distribution arm of media and entertainment group Banijay Entertainment, today announces it has closed its first international sale for BOHO, the Flemish comedy-drama series from Banijay Benelux label jonnydepony, with Dutch public broadcaster NPO for BNNVARA.
The deal marks the first foray beyond Belgian borders for the six-part Streamz Original. Created by Abbie Boutkabout, the series was further recognised earlier this year when it won Best Short-Form at Cannes Series.
Alex LeMerle, Senior Vice President of Sales, Benelux at Banijay Rights said: “Boho has charmed Flemish audiences with its warm, witty take on female friendship and in it, has discovered a bold new voice in Abbie Boutkabout. This acclaimed comedy-drama from jonnydepony feels fresh and universally resonant, with culturally relevant themes, and NPO couldn’t be a better place to start introducing it to the world.”
Helen Perquy, CEO at jonnydepony said: “Using humour, music and a visually striking backdrop, Abbie Boutkabout’s creative vision, brought to life by director Olympia Allaert inspires audiences to embrace life’s possibilities. From the outset, we believed these characters and their stories would connect with audiences well beyond Antwerp, and NPO is the ideal home to bring the series to a wide audience in the Netherlands.”
BOHO is a comedy-drama following three thirty-something friends, Kima, her sister Nawal, and their close pal Alex, as they navigate life in the urban landscape of Borgerhout, one of Antwerp’s most eclectic and culturally-rich neighbourhoods.
Played by Ikram Aoulad (Arcadia), Serine Ayari (Exen) and hip-hop artist Miss Angel (Dancing with the Stars), the trio grapple with the everyday pressures of life and modern adulthood.
From cultural expectations around careers, marriage and families, to the often-conflicting pursuit of their own dreams and happiness, each week they gather for ‘Fuzzy Fridays’, a chaotic but comforting ritual of ‘nightshop’ wine, and bad weed. It’s their space to be themselves, vent, laugh and inform the musical Kima is determined to create about their lives.
A quirky and heartfelt ode to female solidarity, BOHO marks Boutkabout’s television debut, with the creator writing alongside Zita Theunynck (De Club, Arcadia) and Philippe De Schepper (De Big Fuck-up, Eigen Kweek). The series is directed by Olympia Allaert (Season of Sex, Panna) and produced by jonnydepony, part of Banijay Benelux. It joins Banijay Rights’ growing slate of premium drama and comedy titles available to broadcasters and streamers worldwide.
