Banijay Rights Secures Global Rights to BBC’s The Northumbria Mysteries

Banijay Rights, the global distribution arm of media and entertainment powerhouse Banijay Entertainment, today announces it has acquired the global distribution rights to the forthcoming BBC detective drama, The Northumbria Mysteries.

Produced by North East England-based Lonesome Pine Productions, the series is set against the sweeping Northumberland coastline and its surrounding market towns. The drama centres on an unlikely crime-solving duo, led by acclaimed actor Robson Green (Grantchester, The Game).

Simon Cox, EVP Content & Acquisitions, Banijay Rights, said: “The Northumbria Mysteries is a distinctive, atmospheric crime drama that pairs compelling storytelling with the striking backdrop of North East England. As a powerful addition to Banijay Rights’ burgeoning scripted slate, we’re excited to bring this character-driven detective series to international audiences, bolstering our focus on premium, globally resonant drama.”

Robson Green stars as Joe Ruby: a jack-of-all-trades whose life has been shaped by mistakes, regrets and missed opportunities, alongside Oxford-educated DI Rose O’Connell (casting to be announced) a brilliant mind and an ice-cool disposition.

In a classic odd-couple pairing, Joe and Rose combine their talents as they frustrate, confound and ultimately surprise one another while unravelling a series of compelling crime mysteries.

Currently in production, The Northumbria Mysteries will air on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK.

The Northumbria Mysteries joins a Banijay Rights scripted portfolio that includes global hits such as Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror, Rogue Heroes and the recently revived 80s classic Bergerac.
