Banijay Rights secures distribution of hit drama Vidago Palace

Banijay Rights, the leading distribution arm of Banijay Group, is to distribute ratings-winning drama Vidago Palace worldwide, it was announced today by Caroline Torrance, Head of Scripted.

Hailed as the very first drama co-production between RTP (Portugal) and TVG (Spain), Vidago Palace is a 6 x 1 hour event series, produced by leading companies Portocabo and HOP!

Set among the most exclusive European High Class Society at the beginning of the Twentieth Century, Vidago Palace is a period love story. Against the glamorous backdrop of the luxury hotel and health resort in Vidago, Portugal, two young people of different classes who long to be together must overcome many obstacles that are thrown in their path.

Caroline Torrance commented, “We are extremely pleased to acquire the rights to our first Portuguese language drama as part of our expanding non-English language scripted portfolio. The series has an engrossing and universal narrative and, coupled with high-end production values, it is a real treat for the eyes. We are sure Vidago Palace will have broad appeal for broadcasters looking for a strong period event series.”

Directed by Henrique Oliveira, Vidago Palace launched on RTP in Portugal at the end of 2017 and achieved the highest primetime ratings for the channel in the last three years. The drama stars Mikaela Lupu, David Seijo, Pedro Barroso and Anabela Teixeira.
