Cuarzo Producciones to create Spanish version of 'The Village'

Madrid, 15 June, 2011 - Banijay Group company Cuarzo Producciones has been commissioned by leading Spanish terrestrial channel Canal 9 to produce a local version of Studio Lambert’s The Village.

In a deal with rights owner ALL3MEDIA International, Cuarzo will produce an 8x60’ series to air in the Fall.

The format, known as 'Love Thy Neighbour' in the UK, recently aired on Channel 4 channels. It follows 12 families as they compete to win a beautiful home in a tranquil village.

Each week, two families move into the village and do their utmost to charm the locals and prove themselves deserving of the life-changing prize on offer. At the end of each week, the village votes for the family they like best and the remaining six are invited back for a final face-off to win the home of their dreams. Packed with tension and suspense, The Village documents the emotional highs and lows of families whose “new start” lies in the hands of their new neighbours.

Pedro Rodriguez, Managing Director of Cuarzo Producciones said, “The Village is an ideal format for Spain where tight-knit rural communities are very much a way of life and broadcasters are always looking for ways to reflect that in their schedules. We can’t wait to see what happens when we try this interesting experiment here.”

Nick Smith – who brokered the deal with Cuarzo for ALL3MEDIA International added: “The issue of getting a foot on the property ladder and home ownership expense is a genuinely universal one – and it is an acute issue in Spain.  We are confident that Cuarzo will make The Village a highly engaging and entertaining series with a fascinating and informative angle on this subject.”
